Andhra Style Pappu


Palak pappu also known as Palakura Pappu is a nutritious and protein rich dal palak recipe is very famous in south of India. The Palak Pappu is an ultimate comfort food when served along with a bowl of hot Rice and ghee. If you are one of those people who love pappu in Andhra restaurant, here is the recipe you can make at home whenever you want to eat restaurant style pappu.

INGREDIENTS :

  • 1 cup toor dal, cooked
  • 1 cup palak/spinach leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 cup onions, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 4 tbsp coarsely ground green chilli and garlic
  • 1 tsp hing
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp jeera seeds
  • 1 or 2 dry red chilli
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee
  • Oil

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add chopped onions. Saute well.
  2. Add coarsely ground green chilli and garlic paste. Saute for a minute.
  3. Add finely chopped palak leaves. Saute until the leaves wilt.
  4. Add finely chopped tomatoes and saute until mushy.
  5. Add cooked dal and mix well. Adjust consistency by adding water.
  6. Add salt to taste. Boil on a medium flame for 4 to 6 minutes.
  7. In a small pan, heat ghee. Add hing.
  8. Add mustard seeds, jeera. Let it splutter. Add dry red chilli.
  9. Add tempering to the dal. Mix well.
  10. Serve hot with rice and ghee.
