Akki rotti


Akki rotti is a rice based breakfast recipe unique to the state of Karnataka. Akki rotti means rice-bread in the native language, Kannada. 

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 4 to 5 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, finely grated
  • 1 tbsp jeera
  • Small bunch of coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Water 
  • Oil
METHOD:
  1. In a large bowl add rice flour and all the other ingredients, mix well.
  2. Add water little by little to form a soft dough. Knead it well.
  3. Keep the dough aside covered smeared with oil. 
  4. Take a tawa or skillet, apply little oil and spread it.
  5. Take a small portion of the dough, pat it on the tawa and press gently with fingers to form a thin round rotti.
  6. Cook it on a medium flame applying oil, flip it other side too and cook until done.
  7. Serve hot rotti with ghee, chutney, or curd.
Tip: You can also make variations by replacing onions with cucumber, dil leaves, methi leaves or even spinach leaves.
