Tawa Pulao


Tawa Pulao is a popular street food in the streets of Mumbai. It is a spicy pulao recipe made with leftover rice, veggies and pav bhaji masala. As it is a spicy version of pulao it is usually serves with raita or yogurt or as it is for spicy lovers. It is a quick and easy recipe that can be prepared in no time.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 cup rice (basmati/white rice) 
  • 2 tbsp ghee or butter
  • 1/2 tsp jeera or cumin seeds
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 large tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 medium capsicum, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 6 to 8 beans, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp frozen green peas/boiled peas
  • 1 small potato, boiled and finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 to 3 tbsp pav bhaji masala
  • 1/4th tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • Salt, as required
METHOD:
  1. In a large kadai, heat ghee or butter.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let it splutter.
  3. Add sliced onions and fry them until transparent.
  4. Add ginger garlic paste and saute until raw smell disappears.
  5. Add chopped carrots, beans, capsicum, peas and saute until vegetables are cooked slightly.
  6. Add chopped tomato and fry them until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  7. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and pav bhaji masala powder and mix well.
  8. Saute until oil separates from the masala paste.
  9. Add boiled and chopped potatoes. Mix well. 
  10. Add cooked rice, salt and mix them well.
  11. Add chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Switch off the flame.
  12. Serve tawa pulao with raita or yogurt.
