Balekaayi bajji or raw banana bajji is a deep fried fritters made with raw banana. It is an easy and tasty tea time snack served with coconut or pudina chutney. It is usually prepared during monsoon and winter season as a snack.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 raw banana or plantain
- 1 cup besan or gram flour
- 2 tbsp rice flour
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- Pich of hing
- 1/4th tsp baking soda
- Salt as required
- Water as required
- Oil for deep frying
METHOD:
- Peel the skin of raw banana.
- Slice them into slightly thick slices. Put them in water so that it doesn't brown.
- In a mixing bowl, add besan flour, rice flour, red chilli powder, hing, baking soda and salt. Mix well.
- Add water little by little to form a smooth lump free batter. Let it be a thick batter so that it coats well.
- Heat oil for deep frying in a pan.
- Dip the raw banana slices into the batter. Coat them well on both sides.
- When the oil is hot enough, drop the coated slices into hot oil.
- Fry them until crisp and golden brown. Remove them onto a paper towel.
- Enjoy the bajji hot with coconut or pudina chutney.
