Mangalore Buns


Mangalore buns are sweet, mild soft fluffy pooris made using all purpose flour and ripe bananas. These are served with either coconut chutney or veg sagu and is one of the breakfast recipe South Canara.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 cups maida or all purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4th cup curd
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Pinch of baking soda
  • Oil for deep frying
METHOD:
  1. Peel the ripe bananas and mash them well with hands or a blender.
  2. Add sugar, salt, bakind soda and curd. Mix throughly.
  3. Now slowly add maida or all purpose flour and mix it using hands. Continue adding the flour until you get a medium hard dough like a chapathi dough consistency.
  4. Knead the dough well for about 5 to 7 minutes. Smear it with oil and keep it covered for 6 to 8 hours.
  5. After resting time, punch and knead the dough and make lemon sized balls.
  6. Dust with some maida and roll slightly thick than poori.
  7. Deep fry them in hot oil. Fry on both sides on a medium flame until golden brown.
  8. Serve it hot with chutney or saagu.
